Exceptional Gilded Bronze and Bicolor Concentric Agate Sculpture called Sarpedon by Georges Braque (1882-1963), inventor of cubism.

It is Signed 'Heger de Loewenfeld à Georges Braque' and was manufactured by Heger de Loewenfeld, jeweler of Bijoux de Braque, after a drawing and under the direction of Georges Braque.

The Sculpture, in Gilded Bronze, bears an extraordinary Bicolor Agate, with blue tones on the front and rare brown tones on the back organized in concentric lines that draw an Eye till the iris.

It is a rare unique piece created during the process of creation of the exhibition "Bijoux de Braque" held at MAD museum, Paris, in 1963.

This Sculpture comes from the personal collection of Heger de Loewenfeld and is part of the early pieces of Bijoux de Braque, manufactured during the 1960's.

The fish theme is a classical Braque theme and especially important in Braque Jewels, like we can see on one of the gouaches Maquettes of the project reproduced on photo 6.

"Bijoux de Braque" is a project of the famous french painter Braque, who designed jewelry in the last three years of his life, from 1960 to 1963. All items of this collection are made after Braque major career works he has chosen to be transposed in jewels and precious sculptures with the help of a Stonecutter, Heger de Loewenfeld. The project ended up as an exhibition at the "palais du Louvre", today MAD museum in Paris from march to may 1963 (Photo 7) There are approximatively 100 gouaches, listed in the book "Les Metamorphoses de Braque" by Heger de Loewenfeld and Raphael de Cuttoli.
