Beautiful 18K Gold and 15 Baguette-cut Rubies Brooch by Georges Braque (1882-1963), inventor of cubism.
The piece is called "Phosphorus", the morning star in Greek Mythology.
It is signed "Bijoux de Braque" and numbered 8/8
"Bijoux de Braque" is a project of the famous french painter Braque, who designed jewelry in the last three years of his life, from 1960 to 1963. All items of this collection are made after Braque major career works he has chosen to be transposed in jewels and precious sculptures with the help of a Stonecutter, Heger de Loewenfeld. The project ended up as an exhibition at the "palais du Louvre" from march to may 1963 (Photo 7)
There are approximatively 100 gouaches, listed in the book "Les Metamorphoses de Braque" by Heger de Loewenfeld and Raphael de Cuttoli. All subjects are renamed after Greek Mythology characters.
