Exceptional 18K Yellow and White Gold and Brilliants RoundCut Diamonds Brooch by Georges Braque (1882-1963), inventor of cubism.
It is Signed "Bijoux de Braque" and numbered 4/8.
The theme chosen by Braque is a drawing made in 1950, called "tête grecque" reproduced on photo 4 and the gouache of "Bijoux de Braque" called "HEBE" is on photo 5.
The piece is called "Hebe", named after the Greek Goddess of Youth, daughter of Zeus.
"Bijoux de Braque" is a project of the famous french painter Braque, who designed jewelry in the last three years of his life, from 1960 to 1963. All items of this collection are made after Braque major career works he has chosen to be transposed in jewels and precious sculptures with the help of a Stonecutter, Heger de Loewenfeld. The project ended up as an exhibition at the "palais du Louvre" from march to may 1963 (Photo 7)
There are approximatively 100 gouaches, listed in the book "Les Metamorphoses de Braque" by Heger de Loewenfeld and Raphael de Cuttoli. All subjects are renamed after Greek Mythology characters.
